Oh, great:
AUSTIN – Republicans on the State Board of Education Thursday soundly rejected a Democratic-backed proposal to require that Texas students be taught the reasons behind the prohibition of a state religion in the Bill of Rights.
The seven social conservatives of the board – several of whom question the legal precedents affirming the separation of church and state – were joined by the three more moderate Republicans in voting against the proposal.
All five Democrats – three Hispanics and two blacks – voted in favor of the requirement.
