When President Obama stated that he did not campaign for the public option this was the moment that the public option was dead. The White House and the President never wanted it and it was clear by President Obama's statement of the public option. Yes, we all did the "roll eye" when he said that but it was THEN that the public option was dead.
Now, Nancy Pelosi states the public option is NO OPTION for the final bill that is being crafted.
I know many are angry, but it is what it is.
It is simple as this, there are many deals that was made to get health insurance reform where it is at now. MANY. We only know about the "outing" of the Big PhRma deal, but believe me when it is said and done, the deals cut will be across the board and no one should be surprised. Remember, the pharamecutical industry was not the only one who wanted gurantees that the American Public will not be able to negotiate for cheaper drugs, the Doctors, Hospitals, AMA, etc., all wanted their individual stiplations and thus the public option went to the dumpster.
Nancy Pelosi is correct in her analysis that the House passed the public option, but whatever twisting was used, she is moving on without the public option.
My only question is why? Why would Democrats dump a potential part of legislation that has broad support all across this country? That is the question we all need to ask. Is it that the Democrats have become too corporate, the President too far in the bubble, what? Is it that the possibility to finally make the insurance companies play honest broker to the American Public is just too tainted by too much money in these politicians coffers? Did Scott Brown winning Ted Kennedy's seat scare the Democrats to Holy Hell? All this has to be asked because at this time, I really don't think these politicians actually care about my health, your health and your family's health because they only care about the next election and how to win it. Sad, but true.
And many on here loved Ed Schulz the other night when he said, "pass the damn bill Democrats", those same will hate him tonight when he said, "Democrats will pay a political price for this..." (this is the video clip but can not post here because MSNBC)
What Ed Schultz said about Obama cutting deals is a gut wrencher and so true. Many in this country feel, believe that Obama has taken care of all the rich folk and still not them. They are valid in believing that, but for me the health care fight is over.
This is the Max Baucus bill that will be christened "historic" and the American Public will be forced to buy health insurance or deal with a heavy fine along with nothing to counter the insurance companies.
Many fought a good fight for the public option, now this bill has to be sold to the public and I hope that Ed Schulz is wrong, we will see, but it is what it is.
I don't like this bill, but in the end the Democrats need a legislative win because they truly have nothing to run on; and with the economy as it is Barack Obama better sell this bill like he is running for President, again because the communication in the handling of this bill has been atrocious and I hope this White House understands this. I want the average Joe and Joesetta to understand what the stakes are, what the cost will be, why they must pay for insurance, and what they will get out of it immediately and in the future. That is communication that needs to be conveyed out here because one thing the public DO LIKE is the public option and Barack Obama needs to explain to them why they won't get it. And blaming it on congress is not enough, they want to know why he never fought for the public option, why he never wanted them to have "health care like congress." This is a fair and valid question, so I hope he is preparing to answer it.
Done fighting words on health insurance reform.
