For one I hate the damned name, it reminds me of a "Herman Goebbels" moniker ala the "fatherland" and I find it repulsive as have most of the WW2 veterans I know. There are many names that would fit it better something more like The National Security Agency except that sounds to much like the people that Dick Cheney used to tap all of the the nations phones and computers. So that probably wouldn't be good either.
Well how about The American Civil Defense Group, or would that offend our Canadian neighbors or Central American neighors or heavens forbid the South Americans......
I am sure we could have a name that agency competition and come up with some snappy acronyms for it like D.I.C.K.S. Group (Dick I Cheney kicks something) or H.I.S.A L.T. (Have I shot a lawyer today) only American Vice Presidents named Dick get away with this act.
Maybe name it something realistic like FEMA who used to be good at reacting to the USA's disasters, either natural or man made, until President George W Bush put a horse show director in charge of it and made the phrase "You are doing a heck of a job, brownie" a new way to say "you're fired".
I am for anything that doesn't make us sound like the rebirth of a bunch of meglamaniacs bound on destroying the world we live in, and quite frankly don't give a damn on how they do it, either thru all out war, or bankrupting this nation. That 3 trillion dollar war is going to bite us in the azz, eventually. We have paid one trillion on the nations credit card already, the future 2 trillion will be in health care costs and compensation to the hundreds of thousands of veterans with lifelong mental health issues, amputations. Toxic poisons from burn pits, exposure to some chemical weapons.
Hell even Secretary Shinseki is just now making 3 expensive medical issues presumptive to military service in Vietnam, a war that ended 40 years ago, but men and women are still dying from, Agent Orange is now linked to ischemic heart disease, parkinsons, and hairy cell luekemia (sic) that is on top of the cancers, DMII and other medical conditions already known.
I served this nation proudly during two periods of war, I enlisted, I was not drafted during the Vietnam war era, noether were my brothers, like my entire family going back to 1775 we have all enlisted in the nations Army, stupid or patriotic, I don't know any longer, I use to think it was patriotic, but now I am no longer sure. I never heard of "homeland" before George Bush crammed it down our throats, or was that Dick Cheney or Karl Rove? I was a simple soldier serving a nation that I beleived needed me, now I just feel used, and abused.
I took out the rest and will save it for another day it is a story all unto it's own. Hat tip to JMcDonald
