I see the press talking about the latest Wallstreet Journala poll and saying that the country is split on healthcare and that the toxic environment in Washington is not helping.
Yet, I see little analysis for why this is so until this

In this NY Times article we find out finally from a MSM source why the country is polarized and in such a bad mood about what is going on in our political lives.
We here at dailykos and other liberal blogs have talked amongst ourselves about this for awhile but it is nice to see it in a MSM publication.
I was just watching Andrea Mitchell and she quoted the new poll numbers without saying why the country is so angry.
There is a reason.
The country has been deliberately led here by the republicans and the media. The republicans put out a repetitive talking point and they they all feed it to the media and then the narrative takes root via the journalists who write the stuff directly down from the mouths of the republicans and print in the papers and say it on tv.
This article shows a deliberate effort by the GOP to hold this government under siege for their own political gain.
It is sad to say but if this scorched earth strategy is finally fulfills the GOP dream by them gaining in November, I fear that this will tell them that they will not change and we will be in for a hellish time until 2012.
Unfortunately, we have a few in our own ranks that have enabled the GOP to achieve their goal. If dems do not take a really hard look inwards, including our Prez, I am afraid our chances of ever getting a majority to govern in this country will be severely hobbled.
It is my hope that our party will take this article seriously and come up with a strategy to defeat these cynical and nilistic goons.
Please read on because this article is enlightening, maddening and sad at the same time.

Senate G.O.P. Leader Finds Weapon in Unity
By CARL HULSE and ADAM NAGOURNEY
WASHINGTON — Before the health care fight, before the economic stimulus package, before President Obama even took office, Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican minority leader, had a strategy for his party: use his extensive knowledge of Senate procedure to slow things down, take advantage of the difficulties Democrats would have in governing and deny Democrats any Republican support on big legislation.
Republicans embraced it. Democrats denounced it as rank obstructionism. Either way, it has led the two parties, as much as any other factor, to where they are right now. Republicans are monolithically against the health care legislation, leaving the president and his party executing parliamentary back flips to get it passed, conservatives revived, liberals wondering what happened.
In the process, Mr. McConnell, 68, a Kentuckian more at home plotting tactics in the cloakroom than writing legislation in a committee room or exhorting crowds on the campaign trail, has come to embody a kind of oppositional politics that critics say has left voters cynical about Washington, the Senate all but dysfunctional and the Republican Party without a positive agenda or message.
But in the short run at least, his approach has worked...

I wish someone in the media would wake up and address the real root of the problem we face in this country and ask the hard questions about why we are here.
When Obama came in there was a lot of hope for change and lots of goodwill for his agenda now it looks quite bleak and dems have to resort to a procedure called 'deem and pass' to get their healthcare through.
Why are dems so afraid to stand up to republicans and why do they not have confidence in themselves and their ability to govern?
Why has this party and this President allowed themselves to be brought to their knees in this way?
Our government is under siege and it is only hurting us and our country as a whole. It is not coming from outside but from the inside. The republicans are taking this country down from the inside and they are being aided by their friends in the dem party, in the banks, in business and in all areas.
All dems need to get out and vote in November because it is the only way to take back our agenda and our voices.
