Since it's obvious that criminal proceedings will never be brought against the banks because what they did was technically NOT illegal (they took advantage of loose laws and gutted regulations) and the baby steps the government has taken so far to protect us going forward leaves us still vulnerable and without recourse for damages already done, I say we bring a class action suit against the banks on behalf of the American People.
I'm no lawyer, so I may be making a ridiculous suggestion, but it sure seems as if we have numerosity, commonality, typicality, and adequacy, as well as common issues between the class and the defendants to predominate the proceedings, to file a suit. Class action would be a superior vehicle for resolution of the disputes at hand. I for one would like to see some sort of penalty for their actions, because they knew what they were doing was wrong and the damages related to their actions have been quite severe and painful for the American people. The government isn't going to help us punish Wall Street, but can't we help ourselves?
