Rep. Stephen Lynch represents a heavily Democratic district outside of Boston. He is threatening to vote NO on President Obama's biggest legislative priority, reforming the health care system. The bill is not perfect, but it is a major step forward and will provide health insurance to 32 million Americans. If it is defeated on Sunday's vote, it will provide a major setback to President Obama and the rest of his legislative agenda.
Rep. Lynch is playing right into the hands of Sen. DeMint and other Congressional Republicans who believe, correctly, that if health care reform is defeated, it will be the President's "Waterloo."
We need to send a message to Rep. Lynch and others like him. If Lynch votes "no", he should face a well-financed primary opponent. The filing deadline in Massachusetts is May 4th. Plenty of time.
Do the right thing, Mr. Lynch. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
