Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) took to the House floor tonight to call on Republicans to "distance" themselves from the ugly epithets allegedly yelled at minority members of Congress by anti-health care reform protesters gathered on Capitol Hill today.
Ryan called on Republican pols who addressed today's anti-reform rally to "come out and condemn" the protesters for their alleged slurs against black members and Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), who is openly gay.
"This behavior is irresponsible it does not belong in a civilized society," Ryan said of the protests...
My husband said this would happen and that the 'n' word would be used publicly during Obama's Presidency. He said the haters would be unable to help themselves and that when it happens there will be a shift back to commonsense. I hope he is right.
I have been called a 'black bitch' while out walking with my daughter and even was mocked outside a Walmart when two teenagers looked at our black family and started acting like monkeys and making monkey sounds while staring directly at us.
My husband sees the racism at work in the way they blatantly act like he is invisible as the only black man in the room. His white bosses give all the work to lesser qualified colleagues who do not know the business and they even refuse to talk to him directly.
This shit is real for many of us black folk out here trying to live our lives.
I am sick and tired of it and I hope this incident will start an uprising against this crap and that civility will come back to our political discourse.
I hope republicans pay for their shameless fearmongering and hateful racebaiting in November.
