My Facebook friends are a little different. If you have ever watched Big Bang Theory on television, that's us. We revolve around the fantasy realms of trading card games and comic books. One of us posted this yesterday:
Well I did it. For the 1st time since I was 18, I'm no longer a registered Republican.
He is a very intelligent guy. The Tea Party ruckus really got to him. An interesting exchange followed that included some great stuff that reminded me of my fellow Kossacks, so I thought I would port some of it over for you. These are all quotes from different people, with a couple repeat offenders. Enjoy.
Well I did it. For the 1st time since I was 18, I'm no longer a registered Republican.
20 years ago almost all of my extended family had the (R) after their name on the voter registration card. I think there's only 2 left at this point.
The heath care shenanigans of the past year are the main reason I'm no longer a Republican. Happy to see that it looks like #hcr will pass.
If HCR reform is the end of America as we know it, I want to know where the fear mongering Cons were when Bush was ripping up the Constitution with warrantless wiretaps, indefinite detention, and unfunded wars and prescription drug benefits? How is HCR the beginning of tyranny but throwing people (including Americans) ...in prison forever without trial or illegally tapping phones not?
You're a terrorist and you're going to Hell for doubting the President. Oh, wait, I mean, for doubting a REPUBLICAN President.
Does it have to be one is good and smart and the other is stupid and evil? Maybe BOTH sides are stupid and evil and have government control and Corp profits in mind over the needs of the people... :P
All the picking "pre-chosen" sides and then calling the other side moronic I think is counter productive. I personally think we should throw out 98% of those in office, reform campaign contibution, have more than 2 parties, and make teaching civics to the people a much larger part of our lives. Then maybe we will get legislation for the people. /end rant. :)
Sadly, if you want to win an election in a "highest vote total gets the office" system, 2 policital parties is the outcome. If you want more parties, you need a proportional representation system, as many countries in Europe have.
It's Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and the Tea Party people. It was unpatriotic to criticize Bush but now it's ok to call Obama a muslim socialist out to destroy the country?
The problem with the "call everyone that disagrees with me a hypocritical idiot" strategy is that it just entrenches political power in the elite.
The difference being that Obama's spending, at least on health care, is not only paid for but actually is projected to reduce the deficit. At least, it is as much as anything can be in DC.
I agree. I wish the Republicans had tried to work with the Dems instead of vowing no from the get-go.
That's the policital part of this I hate. Rather than work together, it turned into a "let's derail the President's entire agenda, and here's how we can do it".
I am politically pragmatic - a fiscal conservative but a social moderate with some left leanings. Both sides turned this into a football and only seemed to care about passing something or making sure the other side passed nothing. A real shame that both sides couldn't have looked at the facts and agreed -the US has the best health care in the world, but there are major coverage issues.
I still may found the Pragmacratic Party soon.
