Cross posted from Blue Virginia
I just got back from George Mason University Law School in Arlington, VA, where students, alumni, faculty, staff, friends and allies are currently protesting Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's appearance at the school. More broadly, they are protesting Ken Cuccinelli's anti-gay attitudes, which he is attempting to force on Virginia as a whole (note: Cuccinelli is also pushing his political agenda regarding health care reform). This is completely unacceptable, as the protestors and speakers are eloquently and powerfully explaining right now. No wonder why KOOKinelli snuck in the side door of GMU Law School, is not allowing reporters into the event, and apparently is refusing to speak to reporters afterwards. I mean, I can understand why he wouldn't want any sunlight on him, but still that's pathetic.
Check out the video of the rally's first speaker, as she was absolutely superb. Among other things, she explained that what Ken Cuccinelli is doing is "terrifying" to her, as it should be to all of us. She also explained that, although Cuccinelli's job is to tell us what the law is, in addition, "he has mentioned on several occasions that he has serious problems with homosexuality, and...he has also mentioned specifically he has no problem shaping public policy to enact his problems with homosexuality into law." Not good.
Finally, here are a few photos from the protest, including one (see after the "flip") of Del. Bob Brink (D-Arlington) listening to the speaker.
UPDATE: Follow Miles' twitter feed for more. Other speakers included Arlington Co. Board Chair Jay Fisette & Del. Brink. Also there are Del. Adam Ebbin, Arlington School Board Members Sally Baird, Libby Garvey and Abby Raphael.
