Fellow New Yorkers and Kossacks from surrounding areas did you read How regulation came to be: The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire on Sunday? Did you notice the date of the tragedy?
Check out Workers United for information.
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire claimed the lives of 146 workers, mostly young immigrant Jewish and Italian women. The fire is an example of the terrible working conditions to which industrial workers were - and in many places still are - subjected. It is also a critical moment in labor history that led to many significant reforms in workplace safety.
Later in the evening the Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition that will host the official commemoration, will also offer a memorial performance work.
