With the election of the first African American president there has been a predictable and irrational backlash by the far-right.
The SPLC has been on top of it. They track hate and fight it. They were on the frontlines against the militia movement frenzy during the Clinton presidency and they are on the frontlines today.
The Southern Poverty Law Center is a nonprofit civil rights organization dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry, and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of society.
Founded by civil rights lawyers Morris Dees and Joseph Levin Jr. in 1971, the SPLC is internationally known for tracking and exposing the activities of hate groups.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry, and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. Using litigation, education and other forms of advocacy, we work toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality.
We employ a three-pronged strategy to battle racial and social injustice:
We track the activities of hate groups and domestic terrorists across America, and we launch innovative lawsuits that seek to destroy networks of radical extremists.
We use the courts and other forms of advocacy to win systemic reforms on behalf of victims of bigotry and discrimination.
We provide educators with free resources that teach school children to reject hate, embrace diversity and respect differences.

The Southern Poverty Law Center monitors hate groups and racial extremists throughout the United States and exposes their activities to law enforcement agencies, the media and the public. We publish our investigative findings online and in the Intelligence Report, our award-winning quarterly journal. We’ve crippled some of the country’s most notorious hate groups by suing them for murders and other violent acts committed by their members.
Currently, there are 932 known hate groups operating across the country, including neo-Nazis, Klansmen, white nationalists, neo-Confederates, racist skinheads, black separatists, border vigilantes and others.

They track hate groups with an amazing interactive map.

The Tea Party movement that was organized by corporate money by the Republican Party to counter Health Care Insurance Reform has turned into a Frankenstein's Monster that will kill its master and wreck havoc across the country.
They are becoming increasingly radical and violent.
The Right is currently in a political death spiral. They confuse democracy with tyranny and as they lose political battles, their members become more anxious, confused and bitter. This causes them to act irrational which only alienates them further from the general public and thus losing more political battles. Like Keith Olbermann said - they are in a political Toyota.
Don't sit on the sidelines only to witness another federal building bombed or another presidential assassination.

I just wanted to add that very soon, immigration reform and gay rights issues will be front and center. If we thought that healthcare reform drove them nuts, we have not seen anthing yet.
