This may not be an appropriate diary, but I got to ask a question, and you guys are the best, so you can give me the answers.
Charlie Melancon is coming soon to meet with the Rapides Parish democratic Women. There are so few Democrats in this area that active Democratic men simply join them for their biggest events. They'll be hosting him soon. In these parts you can't be too picky. Generally the rule is D is better than R. While Mary Landrieu often gets called out as a conservadem here at the DailyKos, she's like a pinko-commie-nazi-socialists compared to what we normally have here.
Melancon is a whole other animal. As of now all I see is a D, and nothing else.
Before I can shame myself by volunteering for him, and voting for him, I need some info that I don't have, and I would like to confront him with. I know that Melancon is against my major concerns, gay rights, women's choice, environment, limiting corporate power, health care, etc... Today, he even voted against the reconciliation package. Still, he has a slight chance that I would volunteer for him and vote for him. He simply has to answer one question correctly. This is going to be my question to him:
Congressman, I as a progressive, I doubt that there is much that you and I would agree on. In fact, I know that most of the things that I care about most, you oppose. You are who you are, and I don't expect to change you any time soon. But, in order to get my time and effort, I want to know that you aren't going to join Republicans in their efforts to obstruct the president's agenda. Can we count on you to never join a Republican filibuster and to always support the part leadership in procedural votes?
I think that's a fair enough question. If we could count on him procedurally, then that would definitely be an improvement on Vitter, and I'd be willing to work my ass off for him. So, my question to all of you, what is melancon's record in voting on procedure. Did he vote against the various procedural measures on health care reform? If so, I want to confront him with that.
I'd appreciate your efforts in helping me find the answers to this question. Is Melancon, at least, loyal on procedure?
