Please look for ways to donate any tents that you're not using.  Even if it's your only tent, how long will it be before you will need it again?  Six months?  Send it to Haiti and buy another one when you get your tax refund.

TALLAHASSEE---Haiti's ambassador to the United States made an impassioned plea for tents for his earthquake-ravaged country today before he delivered a speech in the Capitol for Black History Month.

"We need tents. Tents to house the people because there are more than a million of them displaced. . . . Unless we have those tents within the next six to eight weeks we'll be in deep trouble because that's when the rainy season starts," Ambassador Raymond Joseph said.

Venezuela has sent 30,000 and an unnamed Caribbean nation has pledged another 10,000, Joseph said. But he said that's far fewer than the 200,000 that Haitian President Rene Preval is pleading for before the onset of the rainy season.

"So I am asking, I cannot plead too much, please help us get as many tents as possible," Joseph said.

Please look for ways to donate any tents that you're not using.  Even if it's your only tent, how long will it be before you will need it again?  Six months?  Send it to Haiti and buy another one when you get your tax refund.

If you happen to have a tent sitting around that looks better than the one in the picture, send it to Haiti.

There will be a tent drive/benefit concert at MugWalls in College Station, TX, on Thursday, February 25, from 8 - 10 pm

If necessary, apply a fresh coat of seam-sealer before sending it on its way.  Also, maybe include a bottle of seam sealer with the tent.  It can then be used by those who received tents from people who didn't think things through as well as you did.  A bottle of seam sealer is less than $5 and will treat at least a dozen tents.

The source code for this list of tent drives can be found here.  It will be updated nightly until at least the end of March. It may be used by anyone in whole or in part.  There is no need to ask permission or give credit.  Post it in your diary.  Post it on your blog.  Use it however you see fit.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?
