I'm not usually into such strong language, especially for the title of a diary, so I apologize beforehand. And this won't be much of a diary, but I feel the need to vent. To rage.
Please follow below to see why.
So you will understand where I am coming from, a little background. I live with my sister and her husband, both of whom are retired and one on disability. I take care of them. My sister is 75, her husband 83. He is dying of emphysema and a couple of other things they say he contracted while fighting in Vietnam.
A few weeks ago I had the flu and a kindly relative did errands for us. Grocery store, drugstore, dry cleaners, that sort of stuff. Of course we paid for it with our Wachovia debit card, so she wasn't out any money or anything.
Well, being a relative, she is in and out of our house and this evening I discovered my sister's debit card was missing. When I went online to check our balance, I find this relative has charged around six thousand dollars to my sister's account. I know it was her because there was a sixteen hundred dollar charge for a new dog she had brought by and shown us. Of course she failed to tell us it was with my sister's money. We know where she shops and spends money, so we know it was her.
I just spent an hour on the phone with the fraud department at Wachovia and agreed to file a criminal complaint against this relative. We figured out exactly what she had charged, etc., and were told our money would be refunded within twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Then I was asked a bunch of questions before I had to speak with the supervisor of Mr. Wachovia Fraud. One question was, had we ever let her use our debit card before. I'm not a liar and was also certainly caught off guard and answered that we had. So then the supervisor comes on the line and tells me that since this relative had at one time our permission to use the card they would not be refunding our money. I am furious. I asked the supervisor if all the other banks had this policy and she responded that Wachovia did and she didn't know about other banks. I then told her we would definitely try and find a bank with a different policy.
So there. That's my rant. Unless the relative decides to be a kindly person - and why would she now - then we're out about six thousand dollars for no reason. Sorry again to be so nasty in the title, but that's exactly how I feel about Wachovia right now. Thanks for listening, now maybe I can calm down a bit.
