As a followup to SuperBowlIXX's analysis about Defense Secretary Robert Gates' Sunday television appearance, I would like to direct your attention to the Washington Post article published yesterday, in which Gates again responded, appropriately enough from a military aircraft, to the "Collateral Murder" video.
The article says that
The video, released by Wikileaks.org, shows the group of men walking down the street before being repeatedly shot by the helicopters. The gunners can be heard laughing and referring to the men as "dead bastards."
"People can put out anything they want and not be held accountable. There's no before and no after, just the present," Gates said of the video.
The result is that "you're looking at a situation through a soda straw and you have no context or perspective," he added.
In other words: what a Tempest in a Teapot!
If you pesky knee-jerk liberals only knew just how Incredibly Dangerous those Unarmed Guys with Cameras were--not to mention all the other Unarmed Guys without cameras--you wouldn't think that blowing apart all those human beings was such a bad thing!
In fact, if you all had just a little more Context and weren't looking through that skinny little Soda Straw of yours, you would see just how Terroristic and Evil those people trying to help a dying guy really were. Not only would you think this wasn't even close to being a merciless wonton slaughter, you would not even think it was depraved and shameful!
Heck, you would probably even laugh about those Dead Bastards, too!
If only you knew the Full Story, those little kids seeing their Daddy literally blown to bloody pieces all over the windshield would seem perfectly honorable--really, given the Context and Perspective that we in the Pentagon are privy to, you would see just how it All Makes Sense. It's all part of our Grand Master Strategy to win the Hearts and Minds of the Grateful Iraqi Public.
So if you ignorant liberal pansies really want to do some good, why don't you hold the people who put out that video accountable, and not our good American flyboys who, after all, are just doing their jobs. And damn well I might add.
Yeah, that's right you heard me. The "people" that need to be "held accountable" are the ones who released the footage of this event. Which, as I noted before, was only Routine and Successful and 100% Defensible, given all the aforementioned Context and stuff.
Now get back to drinking your soda pop and stop bothering me.
