Hi, this won't be a terribly long diary, but I felt this issue isn't getting a whole lot of attention (but then maybe it's me?). I did hear about the guy who pulled the shotgun on a Census Worker.
My story isn't that bad, just suspicious. I think someone has probably tampered with my mail.
Follow me below for the full story.
I received my census form, like everyone else for the 2010 census. I completed it in about 5 minutes because I only accounted for two people. So, there wasn't much to fill out. I put it in the postage paid envelope, sealed it and took it to work with me and put it in the mail.
(Before anyone says anything about that, I've been working where I do for about six years. I've sent Netflix DVDs back, credit card payments, bill payments, Easter cards, etc, through our external work mail system and have yet to have a problem.)
A couple of weeks later, I receive a reminder notice to complete my census form and send it back, as it is required by law, or they'll send a census worker to my house (not that I'd mind, it just seems a waste of money and time). I didn't think anything of it, assuming it was a blanket reminder to everyone. So, I tossed it.
Another week later, I get a second census form. I thought, 'Oh, okay, well maybe mine was lost.' So, I fill that out and mail it in, this time from the post box near the front of my neighborhood.
Again, another notice a couple of weeks later, and then yet a third form a week after that. (Honestly, they probably should have just sent the census worker already...)
But then it dawned on me that perhaps people of a certain political bent who work for the Postal Service are removing census forms from the mail and getting rid of them? I mean, twice is a coincidence, but three times seems like a pattern of behavior...Is this even possible? If not, it's clearly an argument for Federal Government incompetence... ;-)
So, I filled out this third census form this morning. Instead of putting it into it's normal white, obvious envelope, I'm going to place it in a plain manila envelope and address it in an unobtrusive way so that it looks more like any other mail that might go through the system.
I do wonder how much of this is going on, and if it might not be a subtle form of government harassment to make the census inaccurate or more difficult to obtain.
Or maybe I'm just paranoid. I'm willing to accept that. lol
