Rush went on a typically deceptive rant that seems to be picking up steam on the internets. In it, he "thanks" President Obama for supposedly causing the economy to tumble, for raising taxes, and for being divisive. (Yes, I know. Pot, meet Kettle)
Normally, I'd dismiss this silliness, except that it provides so many opportunities for satire and teachable moments. This is where I need the help of Kossaks. Please read on...

I would like to create a video in response to the Limbaugh "Thank you, Mr. President". I will keep Rush's words, but intercut graphics, soundbytes, and facts that contrast his fatuous lies with reality. For example: , when Limbaugh says:

"I want to thank you, Mr. President, for driving up the unemployment rate to near double digits for years to come.  I want to thank you, Mr. President, for telling everybody that it's going to be double digits as the new norm."

I will post a graphic like this:

I can also intercut quotes from youtube videos of President Bush and Cheney into Limbaugh's rant.

So here is the whole Limbaugh speech. It begins with audio from Obama. Please go through some of Limbaugh's claims and help me find suitable images and video to debunk them, and place them in your responses to this diary. I can do the video work, but not all the research. Please forward this to friends to help bring more people into this crowdsource project.

So read Limbaugh's rant, find a particularly appalling lie, and post a link to a concise response. I mean, how do you respond to a statement like

"I want to thank you for helping to destroy the housing market, Mr. President."

Thanks!
PETRUK

OBAMA:  Since today happens to be tax day (laughter) I should just point out that one-third of the Recovery Act went to tax cuts, tax cuts that strengthened the cornerstone of the American dream.  I've been a little amused over the last couple of days where people have been having these rallies (laughter) about taxes, taxes.  You would think they would be saying thank you.  That's what you'd think.  (cheers and applause)

RUSH:  Ladies and gentlemen, this is a classic illustration of authoritarian mocking control.  He hasn't cut anybody's taxes.  The Recovery Act, stimulus bill, it's more like loaves and fishes.  There are no tax cuts in that.  There were some tax credits.  It's all bogus.  But he wants to be thanked.  Okay, I will oblige.  Mr. President, I want to thank you for seizing General Motors and Chrysler.  I want to thank you for appointing a pervert as our safe schools czar.  I would like to thank you, Mr. President, for the generational theft that you have committed with all of this borrowing and spending.  You have spent the wealth of two to three, maybe four generations in the future, before they're even born.  I want to thank you, Mr. President, for insulting and endangering Israel.  I want to thank you, Mr. President, for driving up the unemployment rate to near double digits for years to come.  I want to thank you, Mr. President, for telling everybody that it's going to be double digits as the new norm.  I want to thank you, Mr. President, for exploding the annual deficit to the level where it can never be repaid.

I'd like to thank you, Mr. President, for targeting and destroying private health insurance companies.  I want to thank you, Mr. President, for pushing for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to stand trial in New York City and receive full constitutional rights at a cost of $200 million per year.  I want to thank you for that.  I want to thank you for helping to destroy the housing market, Mr. President.  And, Mr. President, I would love to thank you for your arrogance, because arrogance is part and parcel of an authoritarian leader of a regime.  I would like to also thank you, Mr. President, for your divisiveness.  I would like to thank you for ignoring the public union pension time bombs waiting to explode out there.  I would like to thank you, Mr. President, for mocking and disrespecting the American people.  And I'd like to thank you for your never-ending support of the New Black Panthers and for ACORN.  I'd like to thank you, Mr. President, for embracing our enemies and snubbing our allies.  But most of all, Mr. President, thank you for arousing the sleeping silent majority because we have been asleep too long.  November is coming, Mr. President.  That is when we will really thank you.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    •  Sorry (0+ / 0-)

I'm electronically challenged so I don't know how to do some of the fancy-dancy stuff here.  But you might want to check Realty Trac for some information on the foreclosure rates.  For example, "for the period ending 4/30/08 (before the election) foreclosures on 649,917 properties for the quarter.  This is up 23% from the previous quarter, and 112% from the 1st quarter of 2007."  I think the problem with the housing market began approximately mid 2006 or thereabouts.  So how could President Obama be responsible for the bursting of the housing bubble?  Apparently, fat-boy hasn't heard of Goldman Sachs or Country Wide Funding.  I'd sure love to see his tax returns.  I doubt that he's paying his fair share. The problem started with the decline in the housing market then exploded as Wall Street melted down in Sept. - Oct. of 2008. So is fat-boy trying to rewrite history? But good luck in your efforts. Where are you going to post this information?

Call Limbaugh or other conservative show and tell them Limbaugh is a liberal.

    Why?

Because he keeps blaming Obama for the mess he inherited, when it was clearly the fault of the previous President, Nancy Pelosi.

And all those who say there was a President Bush...they need to read their latest Luntz-o-grams.

Bush never existed. He's been airbrushed out like a Soviet era dissappear-nick.

Wow, she was able to completely destroy the entire economy in less than two years? Since the Dems didn't gain control of congress until January 2007, Mrs. Pelosi must work at warp speed.  I agree that Bush wasn't our last president, it was Cheney, the pointy headed little war monger who, prior to 9-11, refused to listen to the warnings that we were going to be attacked by terrorists.  This whole mess is his fault and only his (well maybe some fault goes to Greenspan).  I predict that one day we will find out that Cheney made millions of $$$ off the wars.  The little snake.

Is if Rush is so concerned why doesn't he take his $14 million a year and put it to helping those in need. After all, I am sure he agrees the government shouldn't help those in need it should all come from charity.

Limbaugh is on a eight year $400 million contract. It works out to about $100 per station per hour. I know he has two charities that he favors, the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society of America and the Marine Corp - Law Enforcement Foundation. He contributes several million a year to charities.

...Obama really hit a nerve with the OxyContin addict.

Obama tells the truth about lowering taxes, & the Republican party leader becomes unhinged.

In other words, Limbaugh suddenly becomes a one man Tea Party rally once confronted with the superiority of Barack Obama.

Somebody (forgot who)  has already called Limbaugh "a one man Tea Party rally."

Work that one into your video.

IMO limbaugh really has been instrumental getting us into this disaster the last 20 years as the dominant player in the talk radio monopoly that allowed the roves to take lee atwater national.

RUSH, I want to thank you for making bipartisanship impossible, taking the GOP to a new low, and undermining democracy.  I want to thank you for getting perverts and corporate shills on the supreme court.  I would like to thank you, Rush, for the generational theft that you have committed by enabling the GOP to deregulate our banks and financial institutions and lie us into a 2 trillion dollar war and tax cuts for billionaires.  You have spent the wealth of two to three, maybe four generations in the future, before they're even born.  I want to thank you, Rush, for insulting and endangering all Americans who value democracy, free speech, and the Constitution.  I want to thank you, Rush, for driving up the unemployment rate to near double digits for years to come.  I want to thank you, Rush, for telling everybody that climate change is a commie environmentalist hoax.  I want to thank you, Rush, for exploding the annual deficit to the level where it can never be repaid.

I'd like to thank you, Rush, for targeting and swiftboating anyone and anything decent and democratic.  I want to thank you, Rush, for selling Club Gitmo wear and making torture acceptable again.  I want to thank you for helping to destroy the housing market, Rush.  And, Rush, I would love to thank you for your arrogance, because arrogance is part and parcel of an authoritarian leader of a regime.  I would like to also thank you, Rush, for your divisiveness.  I would like to thank you for ignoring the GOP corruption and generally using your 600 radio stations like some Paul Revere in reverse. I would like to thank you, Rush, for mocking and disrespecting the American people.  And I'd like to thank you for your never-ending support for all things regressive and for all the lies and racism and threats.  I'd like to thank you, Rush, for embracing our enemies and insulting our allies.  But most of all, Rush, thank you for arousing the sleeping silent majority because we have been asleep too long.  November is coming, Rush.  That is when we will really thank you.
