The ACLU is marking it as Equal Pay Day today. and got an e-mail from the Jennifer Brunner campaign that said it was. (Full disclosure: I am a member of the Blog Workers Union and I have donated to the Brunner campaign in the past) From the ACLU page
The American Civil Liberties Union recognizes Equal Pay Day today, the day that marks how far a woman would have to have worked into 2010 to earn the same as a man did in just 2009. On this year’s Equal Pay Day, the ACLU urges the Senate to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act (S. 182), a bill which would provide a much needed update to the Equal Pay Act of 1963, closing loopholes in the current law, strengthening weak remedies and taking steps to finally close the wage gap.
So I was thinking why not get some Kossacks to throw some donations to some worthy Democrats that just happen to be women.
In Ohio, there is a U.S Senate candidate named Jennifer Brunner. She has the best ideas for job creation, and she has been a supporter of marriage equality since the late 80s. She wanted withdrawal fro Afghanistan when the President was preparing to "surge" and she opposes the death penalty. Ohio's primary date is May 4. You can help Brunner by donating to her through ActBlue, or phonebanking for her or if you're an Ohio resident, you can vote for her by utilizing early voting(if you already haven't voted for her).
In California, teacher and experienced community organizer Marcy Winograd is trying to unseat a Blue Dog that votes with Israelis rather than American interests. Her primary date is June 8th, and you can help her by donating to her directly or through ActBlue
In Pennsylvania, Lois Herr is challenging Joe Pitts of Stupak-Pitts infamy in November. She has been endorsed by many feminist organizations and has grassroots support in the Keystone State. Lancaster County will be an uphill battle to win over, but you can help out. You can donate to her through ActBlue
Let's make sure we have More and Better Democrats come November and hopefully more of them are women too.
