There have been several diaries here about the matter of Clay Green and Harold Scull a gay couple who were separated by Sonoma Co. CA social workers and the courts. The National Center for Lesbian Rights issued a press release on the matter. Sonoma Co. has now released information on its side of the story.
Gay rights lawsuit includes evidence of domestic abuse
The Guerneville man suing Sonoma County for separating him from his partner and selling their possessions had attacked the other man and at one point threatened to kill him, according to the sheriff’s department report of the 2008 incident released Wednesday.
But no charges were brought against Clay Greene, 78, accused of attacking Harold Scull, 88, because prosecutors said there was insufficient evidence. Greene has repeatedly denied the allegations of abuse and Scull at the time was unwilling to pursue charges.
The county is contending that they acted to protect Scull from Green at Scull's request. County officials have been deluged with emails following the NCLR press release. This is turning into a major controversy in what is generally considered to be a very gay friendly area.
Ultimately it will be up to a jury to determine the facts of what actually happened in this situation. As a resident and voter of Sonoma Co. I will attempt to maintain an open mind. However, I don't think that it is a bad thing that government agencies are being held accountable as to whether they have used appropriate standards in dealing with a gay couple.
