Yesterday, at 5 am, my fiance and I brought a little girl into the world. She's a little tiny at 6 lbs and 3 ounces, but she's healthy, and happy, and mom is doing fine...
And my whole life is reaffirmed. I was never very good at telling people why I am passionate about politics...
but now I have a breathing, giggling, burping squirming exhibit A.
I care about politics because I want the world that I leave to her to be a better one than the one my parents have left to me.
I care about politics because she should never have to live in the shadow of nuclear winter...
I care about politics because I want her to have the very best health care she can for the rest of her long and healthy life...
I care about politics because I want her to have the very best education she can possibly receive...
I care about politics because I never want any employer to look at her as less of a person, or value her one penny less, because she is a woman...
I care about politics because she should have every right to decide what she does with her body - and to receive all the education she needs to make informed decisions about her life...
I care about politics because every freedom acknowledged in the constitution firmly belongs to her, and I will fight with all my strength to defend those for her, and to restore the ones which have been infringed upon...
I care about politics because no person or government or entity should ever be allowed to treat her differently because of who she decides to love, or marry, or what decisions she makes about what to believe about God, or god, or Gods, or the hereafter.
I care about politics because I treasure these things, for myself, and for my tiny and beautiful progeny. And I will teach her to love and value these things as well, despite what others may say, or threaten, or believe, because the value of these ideals is not predicated on their popularity.
I care about politics because if I do not, I do not know who will care enough about these things to fight for them for my baby girl before she can fight for them for herself...
I love the community here at DailyKos - I don't comment or read as much as I would like to; and I am sure that now my time will be at an even higher premium and I will be able to spend even less of it with you wonderful people. We argue, we disagree, we even shout at times... but we are passionate about what we feel is right, and we are fighting for the betterment of our world. Thank you for that, all of you... and I ask that you keep up the good work... for me and my Persephone Lynn...
