Greaser, Spic, Lazy Mexican, Bean-er, Brown Boy, wet back, and now immigrant.
Do I have to carry my birth certificate if I have a Latino Sir Name?
If a person "looks" like an immigrant than they can be detained or arrested according to a new bill Arizona has pushed through their legislation and awaits the governor's signature. Now what the hell does a "immigrant" look like?
I challenge anyone to turn on Mexican Television and observe how exactly a Mexican looks. There is no particular way a "Mexican/ illegal immigrant looks".
My family has been in New Mexico since the mid 1400s. I have family members who are very fair skinned with green eyes, blue eyes, light brown hair, dark brown hair, blond hair, dark skinned, black hair, freckles etc. etc.
So if any of us travel to Arizona for vacation and a police officer who may be prejudice suspects that any of us are immigrants can they detain us?
The answer is yes.
If you (regardless of how you look) are traveling to visit the Grand Canyon and look a little different from the local demographic, can you be detained?
The answer is yes.
Illegal Immigrant is the GOPs new code word for Mexican.
Even though my family has lived in the South West since 1400s when the Spaniards first came, we have integrated with about every race that exists. My Wife is white having ancestry coming from Germany and England. So if a prejudice sheriff decides to pull me over on my way to the Grand Canyon because he suspects I'm an "immigrant" and doesn't like the fact that I married a white woman can he detain me?
If the law passes the answer is yes. I will be forced (even though I don't speak a word of Spanish) to prove my citizenship. It makes absolutely no sense to me.
So I challenge the Democratic National Party to take a stand and awake the largest growing minority group in the country to get out and vote in 2012. There should be no Republican left an unasked if they support Arizona's discriminatory law and hold their feet to the fire. The Arizona GOP is about to stir a national hornets nest that I don't suspect will stir well with the rest of the country. It may serve well with the Southern strategy but make every Republican in the country backtrack on Arizona's stupidity and lose the Latino vote as they have pretty much the African American vote.
Arizona's law opens the door for blatant racism, allows for over abuse of government power and offends many Spanish Americans like myself. The country is no longer one race, it has become a melting pot of different cultures and races.
The Democrats need to start hammering the Republicans on a national level. Marginalize them even further. The Democrats will awaken a sleeping Giant in regards to the Latino electorate and those Americans (of all races) who loathe this mentality that destroys our country. Use it with every Latino electorate (Cuban, Puerto Rican, etc.)
Arizona law sounds like a huge overstep of government powers straight out of Nazi Germany!!!
