Excuse me if I get a bit over the top about what I say, but I am angry, very angry.
As one who years ago was badgered time and again by U.S. Border Patrol agents (who evidently thought I was an illegal alien even though I was born in New Jersey just under 59 years ago) every time I traveled west on Interstate 8 toward San Diego, I am very angry at the Arizona Republican Party for legalizing discrimination and harassment of those who don't quite look like white anglo-saxon protestants or whatever.
More below.
The hate mongering piece Arizona's Republican governor signed into law brought back angry memories about all those trips where Border Patrol agents held me up for minutes at a time for no other reason than the fact that I was traveling past their check points.
It brought me back to a time when I questioned the wife of one Border Patrol agent about what was happening. I was told at the time that the agents were under a lot of pressure to curb drug trafficking the the area.
Although I did get some satisfaction from the answer and I got no more of those annoying sessions with Border Patrol agents, I still have some sore memories from the repeated questioning I got.
When I heard about how hard Arizona's Republicans were pushing for this hate legislation, it brought me back to those angry times. And when I heard that Gov. Brewer was going to sign the legislation, it made me angry.
If Republicans really think folks like myself are not going to think about this when November comes, the only ones they're fooling are themselves. If they think we're simply not going to vote while their agents throughout the country try to demonize law-abiding Americans regardless of race or ethnic background simply because they don't look or think like them, they're really in for an illusion.
The tidal wave they started today won't just stop in Arizona. In fact, I beg that it spreads throughout the country and throws all these Republican hate merchants out of power in November.
Apathy no more. It's time to fight and throw these Republicans out of power.
