This will be a short diary. I don't often write them. the last time I did I got into quite a dizzy.
Dear Mr. Nimoy,
I just read that you were "hanging up you ears". I am in Calgary and not attending the comic expo. Darn! Anyway I just wanted to thank you for your work as the character of Mr. Spock. That character had a huge impact on my thinking and my life.
You would think that a short Mexican American girl growing up in central Texas in a semi rural area where we had a sheltland pony, would have nothing in common with a green pointy eared alien.
But we did.
I loved the natural world and Spock was all about the natural world.
Nimoy, 79, plans to retire shortly from show business and the "Star Trek" convention circuit, according to the Canadian newspaper Toronto Sun.
The actor, director and photographer will be attending the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo this weekend, and told the paper that beyond this event he only has a few more public appearances scheduled.

Growing up in a military town right after Sputnik, the idea of the scientist was one of the hero. He would solve our problems. Gilligan's island had the Professor, who always solved things in the end.
Then of course Spock ......
He always had the solutions.
I like that, I like knowing stuff and finding solutions.
Now as a adult I have traveled to wonderful places and seen wonderful things. I love our planet. I have done science work in the field and worked in science education and literacy where ever I have been. Science is important to me.
Thank you Mr. Nimoy.
I just really wanted to say thanks.
Not a great diary, but from the heart.
I probably won't around much. but will check back later.
I hope he sees this one day.
