I usually avoid boycotts because they generally don't work. The reason they don't is because it is too much work for people to enact. For instance I would love to boycott Walmart, but then where else can I shop? My time is limited and I can't drive all over Des Moines looking for the things I need.
Ahhhh, but a boycott of BP is a different thing. I know, lots of private brands get their product from BP, but we can shut down the BP labeled convenience stores, which would put a huge dent in their wallets, and it would be a very, very visible thing to do. Imagine all those former BP stores all shut down. Join me below the fold and we'll continue.
I've started a Facebook group that should spread virally if everyone links to it. It can be found here:
http://www.facebook.com/...
But that's just a start. I'll continue to post several breaking news stories a day, but we can do even more.
A few calls to your area c-stores to find out who their suppliers are is a start. In my area it is Casey's, QT, Kum-and_Go (I know, but there really IS a store called that), and HyVee. I will call each of them tomorrow and post online if they buy from BP or not. If everyone in their areas would do the same the pressure will become enormous on retailers to shift their business elsewhere.
I know this may sound lame, but at 56 and not in the best of physical shape I don't know what I can do to help, although I am going to make calls tomorrow to see what they need, and I'll go if I won't be in the way. But if we can just grow the group and shut down the BP c-stores it will make one hell of a statement to the world that we're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore.
Join the group, or start your own group, but let's make a statement, no matter how symbolic it is, that there IS something we can do about it, and we're starting right now.
