This is another diary about Kristia Cavere, the Tea Party/Republican Party candidate that claimed, a few weeks, back that:
"The Republicans are the ones who liberated Europe in World War II."
Just as odd as that statement was Cavere's claims that very same week that she had over $400,000 in her campaign war chest. It did seem odd, since Cavere didn't seem to have a notable job, a campaign website or a large political following. All she was known for prior to this Congressional run were some anti-Obama tirades found online.
So, I cut Cavere some slack about the mysterious financial reporting, because, hey, I even unwittingly maxed out a credit card a few months back. But I really shouldn't have...
After her faux-paux, which I first blogged about here and on Left of the Hudson (and was later covered on Countdown with Keith Olbermann), things started looking up for Ms. Cavere. She even picked up endorsements from the Republican Committees of the towns of Warwick and New Windsor in New York.
But what about that $400,000, and why did she have it reported in her April 15 filing deadline as she was required to do? Well, the money seems to have turned into vapor.
A strange drama is unfolding over a congressional candidate's boast that she set a national record for House contenders by raising $401,200 in donations in six weeks.
A Republican consultant who worked with Tuxedo resident Kristia Cavere said Thursday that he asked her for a bank statement for her campaign account last weekend and that it showed considerably less money than she claimed.
The balance was $12.
There are no zeros or commas missing.
Undanted, Cavere is continuing with her campaign.
As I am very entertained by Kristia, I have several suggetions how she can spend $12 on campaign supplies:
6 non-union shop cardboard lawn signs
3 car magnets
27 handwritten postcards and postage
1 dot com domain name for a year with 1 month free basic hosting from GoDaddy.com
1 newspaper ad in the Times Herald-Record. That's 12 words for in the classified category "Miscellaneous"
3 medium cups of coffee at Liana's Coffee Shop in Carmel, NY
1 new copy of "How to Talk to a Liberal If You Must" by Ann Coulter
12 used copies of How to Talk to a Liberal If You Must" by Ann Coulter for her staff
1 Fun Day Pass on the Short Line Bus system in Orange County, NY
1 bottle of Purell Hand Sanitizer
1 pair of replacement insoles
16 color copies at FedEx/Kinkos
