Good morning, and thank you for the kind wishes last week; sorry I could not come out and play. I have no idea what it was, but it was gone in 2 days.
As usual, I'm scurrying to get some words strung together to give you some reason to visit; I'll be here this morning for whatever arises. Hopefully nobody is dealing with a home repair emergency today.
Today's long-anticipated event will be the opening of the acequia after the annual cleaning and repairs.
What's an acequia?
It's an irrigation canal, dug by hand in 1835 by my neighbors' ancestors, and it brings the waters of the Pecos River to the fields that have sustained this rural community for 175 years.
This is 40 "cusecs" (cubic feet/second) of water, about 300 gallons per second; a lot of water going by, powered by gravity.
