With the purge happening in the Republican party, what happens when their teabag candidates lose?
One of the things I just can't seem to wrap my head around is this push to the extreme right on the part of the Republicans. A mythology has developed on their side that the reason they lost so badly last time around is that, doggone it, they just weren't conservative enough. This thinking lead to the Tea Party which has pretty much reshaped the kowtowing Republicans into a party just left of Attilla the Hun.
They refuse to listen to reason. They refuse to believe any information that conflicts with their core beliefs. They only listen to Fox News, which acts as an echo chamber for this idiocy.
If past is truly prologue, then the Republicans should clean up this year in the Senate and House. But with the hardline right tilt of the Republicans this year, I'm wondering if they will wind up scaring people away from them instead of coasting to easy victories.
So what happens if the Teabag candidates lose? They've already doubled-down on Conservatism. They can't go much further right. Will this bring out violence? I can't see them backing down on conservativism, it's their raison d'etre. I can't seem them being quietly dismissed from mainstream Republicanism since they have more or less taken over the party.
