Andy Rooney made some remarks last week about the Billboard Top 200 and his belief that he is a "normal, average man." I took a few minutes of my own time to set him straight on both points.
I have a lot of respect for Andy and have enjoyed his commentaries for many years, but as of late he's become more and more of a curmudgeon and less and less of a journalist engaged in the world about which he is commentating.
And I am especially annoyed by his need to categorize himself as "average" -- which is the same sort of nonsense that helped to get George W. Bush elected President twice. Each time he tried to convince America that he was "average" and good, while Kerry and Gore were above average and bad. People like Andy Rooney should put aside the false modesty and take a bow now and then. A world full of average Joe's would be a very boring place indeed.
