I realize this is part of Newts new book on where he argues against democratic legislation that is now taking place, and it is his misdirected attempts to distort current history. But I find it very offensive and I hate to say this even Joe Scarborough and his guests this morning are also tearing apart the wing nuttery of it. I hate to have to agree with Joe and Mika.
But they played a short clip where even Chris Wallace asks Newt if isn't these remarks "over the top" and Newt calmly states No, this is what is happening. As a veteran I take issue with what Newt thinks keeps the United States a free nation. It is not Republicans and their politics keeping us a free nation, it is all Americans independents, Democratic leaders and yes even Republican leaders.
But what they all forget the United States is based on the Constitution, and yes it is a document of high ideals, but what enforces it? It is the people of the nation, and this nation has grown from very large contingents of immigrants from all over the world.
In the earliest days of the 1600 and 1700s the majority of imigrants came from England and France, as they had the vast majority of ships that made the journeys from Europe to the "new world" at first the indians sold the earliest settlers land. Then as the settlers and immigrants needed more land they took it by force and either outright killed the indians off or forcibly moved them farther west.
Then we had our Revolutionary War, and it was NOT about TEA regardless of what the TEA party of today would like to rewrite history and make it so. It was really about who governed the United States, King George and the British Parliament, who was taking all the financial gain they could, and sent over large forces of troops to enforce their laws. The residents of the then new country decided to throw the Kings forces out of the country and representatives of the 13 original colonies in Philadelphia had the Contitutional Convention. They also gave General George Washington the authority to raise an Army to fight the British, and our Army by force threw the Kings Army after many years of battle back to England in defeat and we declared ourselves a free nation.
The start to our nation was tenuous at best, some colonies did not want slaves, while others did, this issue alone almost stopped the Constitution from being adopted. So they chose to ignore it for the time being for the good of the new nation. The nation was attacked many times in the early century of this nation, Britain again tried to take control in 1812 and burned the new capitol in Washington DC, in 1836 we fought the Mexicans, in 1898 we fought the Spanish in Cuba, then we sent our forces to fight in WW1 in France, then came WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Panama, GW1, and now the 2 wars we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Are the reasons we are fighting these wars right, that is debatable Afghanistan started for the right reason but now this war is past it's due date. Iraq was never a right war and has been a mess since it started. These are my opinions as an ex infantry Staff Sergeant and nothing more.
But what keeps this nation free to keep adjusting the Constitution thru the Congress and the Supreme Court is the military force we use as a deterrent to keep other aggressive countries from invading us and taking what they want. Wars are always fought over something, gold, land, oil, water, to obtain slave labor etc. The nation invaded had something theother nation wants, since many of the worlds nations are led by dictators it is one man that decides to start a war, much as Saddam did in 1990 when he invaded Kuwait. Much as Bush/Cheney did when they manipulated this nation into war with Iraq in 2003, but they used lies, propaganda and leverage to force other nations to join us.
But for Newt Gingrich to compare President Barack Obama to two of the worlds most despised leaders it has ever know Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin then Newt has jumped the shark
Gingrich Publishes Book Arguing Obama Poses Hitler-Like Threat
Since retiring from Congress, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has split his time between heading a health care lobbying firm, leading a pro-drilling front group with "resources" from the oil industry, advising current GOP leaders, and providing frequent conservative commentary on Fox News and other right-wing media. Now, he is promoting his new book, To Save America, which argues repeatedly that the Obama administration and Democrats in Congress are a "secular-socialist machine" that "represents as great a threat to America as Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union."
Gingrich has repeatedly defended this claim, telling both NBC’s Meredith Vieira and Fox News’ Chris Wallace that he truly believes that the Obama administration is an equivalent "threat" to America as brutal dictators like Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin:
VIEIRA: Can you honestly compare what’s going on with the Democrats with Nazi Germany?
GINGRICH: No it’s not a question of how evil they were. Nazi Germany was terrible, Stalin’s Russia was terrible, Mao’s China was terrible. It’s a question of finality. Had we lost either of those contests, we would have become a radically different country.
* * * *
WALLACE: So — but you compare that to the Nazis and the Communists?
GINGRICH: I compare that as a threat.
There is a video where Newt is being taken to task by Chris Wallace worth the watch
A lot of people do not care for our military, but I feel that millions of Americans have died in military service of this nation to keep it free and to make sure the Constitution and the Bill of Rights endures to protect all of our freedoms.
When I took the oath to enlist it was not to a President or Congress it was to defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic it was not to a political party or any one person but to the entire nation and all my fellow Americans we are a unique nation a great melting pot, have we made it perfect, not yet but it is better than most nations and we keep improving it all the time, and it remains a work in motion. But I am proud my children and grandchildren are Americans and will remain Americans. But the largest reason for that is the fact that we have the most advanced military that serves as a detterrent to others who would harm us. Yes small terrorist attacks are abhorent but they will not cripple this nation, we will survive.
We have survived more than 20 years of Limbaugh and ten years of Glenn Beck we will survive. Regardless of what Newt thinks.....
