Ellinorianne and her husband are politically active. Ellinorianne is a delegate for the State of California and her husband ran for State Senate in 2008. She is a Delegate for the State of California (and that is how she recently met Meteor Blades), tries to attend local DFA meetings and is involved in local campaigns. She blogs at DK as well as local blogs, such as Liberal OC and OC Progressive.
Ellinorianne has been active in a few series at DK, such as DK GreenRoots eco series, our new eco series called EcoAdvocates, Chronic Tonic and is a proud Pootie person.
She recently blogged about Lily the California Gray Whale that died after being malnourished, weak and unable to migrate to Alaska.
She also writes about local candidates and issues, such as the teacher's strike at a local school district.
Ellinorianne has many posts about the dolphin slaughter in Japan, threats to the sperm whales for which the Gulf of Mexico is an "important breeding and nursery ground," and climate change deniers.
Ellinorianne was laid off in April of last year and now attends classes at community college in ecological restoration, environmental studies, ecology and is the communications chair for Slow Food OC.
Joe Shaw, who is campaigning for Huntington Beach City Council, wrote this about Ellinorianne:
She's involved in all kinds of food safety issues. She helped a local entrepreneur with a product called Eat Cleaner, which is used to naturally clean fruits and vegetables. That led to her involvement with Orange County Slow Food. As part of Slow Food OC, she brought Chef Ann, the Renegade School Lunch Lady to Orange County and she also is working on their summer BBQ.
In the meantime, she was also blogging from the picket line on behalf the Capistrano Unified School District teachers who are fighting a right wing school board. Heather's coverage of the strike was the best in OC.
She also blogs on Ocean quality and ocean sea life and the environment.
She is an amazing volunteer for candidates and has helped Beth Krom, running for Congress in the 48th, Melissa Fox, running for Assembly in the 70th AD, and really anyone who needs a helping hand. Her own husband has run for State Senate and may run for another office.
She has SUCH a big heart and she wants to help everyone, but there's only so much [Ellinorianne] to go around. [Ellinorianne's] blogging is so good because she puts so much of herself into it. It's personal for her, whatever the issue.
[Ellinorianne] has a unique and powerful voice. She is a force for change.
Some bloggers may have passion for an issue but become so filled with personal agendas that their ego transforms them into drama queens where community interests are tossed to one side. That harms not only community but also detracts from accomplishing political goals.
That's NOT Ellinorianne. She is a team player who wants what is best for our DK community and our eco community, and she works damn hard to help make it a reality. The other day, Meteor Blades informed me that he could not post EcoAdvocates this week and the night before posting time, Ellinorianne was there offering to help even though she needed to study for a final exam. It was Ellinorianne's creativity when she was editor for another new eco series, eKos Earthship, that brought it to the rec list the other day.
Ellinorianne's life, activism and values are the essence of DFA Netroots Nation Scholarships: Providing progressive activists with a "forum to strengthen the online community and grow the progressive movement while inspiring action and growing new ideas to affect change."
If we can support Ellinorianne now as she has supported this community, then she will be blogging from NN10 this summer.
Please vote for Ellinorianne because she is one of us.
In her own words:
I think just writing from my heart and giving people simple ways they can do things in their own life has inspired others to get involved... .The personal is political and all of it can teach us lessons about ourselves and each other and that tiny steps can lead to big change.
