Are Libertarians just naive? Or are they ignorant? Or, are they a bunch of hypocrites who don't practice what they preach? Or, maybe there's a bit of all three things going on there. Let's find out. In order to do so, I am proposing a little social experiment. It should be educational, fun, and maybe even a little mischievous.
I would do this myself, if I ran or owned a retail store. I used to have one several years ago, but actually I think it was a little too small and hidden to be of the correct type for this experiment. Anyway, I would like someone with a store or retail establishment of some type, to post a large sign in their front window, where it would be visible to all passing pedestrians and perhaps even motorists, reading "NO LIBERTARIANS ALLOWED IN THIS STORE."
If any Libertarians happen upon this sign, and they believe in what they advocate, then they would have absolutely no problem being banned from this establishment. If questioned, the owner should just state plainly that they will not allow Libertarians in their store because they hate those people and everything they stand for politically.
If, however, said Libertarian were to become outraged and storm into the store, demanding to know why they are being persecuted for their political beliefs, the owner should just respond, "I thought you Libertarians believed that a private store owner could refuse to serve anyone for any reason they wanted." Maybe a video camera could even be set up to record some of the fun.
Either way, they lose. But then, perhaps, if they step back and think about it for just a minute, they will understand a little bit why their position is a bunch of ridiculous nonsense.
