Rand Paul ran for cover and looked like a cowering fool by canceling his scheduled appearance on "Meet the Press" this morning, making this only the third time in the program's history that a scheduled guest has canceled an appearance. As a result, he had to suffer the consequences of a brutally tough opening segment on the show.
You know that the Republican candidate is in trouble when the seemingly Republican partisan David Gregory, host-moderater of "Meet The Press" reduces you to a mere dolt!
David Gregory's opening segment excoriating Rand Paul:
Appearing on Meet The Press, National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (R Obstructionst-TX) said:
"Well, Dr. Paul's new to running for public office, and I think it's Bob's [Menendez] experience, I'm sure my experience, that you see novice candidates occasionally stumble on questions. I think he's clarified his position. But I think he's done the right thing."

No, Senator Cornyn.... Rand Paul did not "stumble". He stated his position and told the truth about his extremist views. That got him into trouble because it is the antithesis of what most Americans believe or want. Can somebody please tell Senator John Cornyn that telling the truth is exactly what politicians are supposed to do, even if that breaks with Republican Party rules and tradition. The right thing to do in this case, Senator Cornyn is to try to stop backpeddaling and stop trying to duck and cover and own up to the fact that your party has fallen off the deep edge and that your party nominated the wrong Republican to run against the very articulate and highly electable Democrat, Jack Conway. Rand Paul is just the first of the Republican extremists to embarrass the party, Marco Rubio running for Senator from Florida will cause equal embarrassment in short time and if anybody in America doubted that the fringe Right-wingers have taken over the Republican party, they will be reminded of it again and again with candidates such as these miserable excuses.
Rand Paul: The gift that keeps giving to the Democratic party!
A special thank you to the incomparable Rachel Maddow who brought about this firestorm by conducting her interview with great integrity, grace and intelligence. I can't think of another news show host or reporter who would dared have asked the question that brought about all of this, nor can I think of another news host who would not have been afraid to actually follow-up Mr Paul's answers with the actual facts and knowledge that Rachel Maddow did! (OK, well maybe Keith Olbermann). Ms. Maddow is an incredibly well informed and articulate host who maintains respect, elegance and decorum, even when she's going for the throat. I think a Peabody Award is in her near future.
