As you all know by now, the Federal Government is very much involved in the activities taking place to address the Gulf Oil Spill Disaster.
Live Coverage - Live Coverage of the hearing probe conducted by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
WH Press Conference - White House Press Conference of Monday, May 24, conducted by Robert Gibbs, Press Secretary, where Thad Allan, the Coast Guard Commandant (Incident Response Chief) and Carol Browner, Energy Adviser, also spoke.

My takeaway of the above press conference (and some other coverage on the Internet) is that realistically, the current spilling of oil from the damaged well into the ocean will most likely be stopped only in the August timeframe when they drill two additional relief wells (estimate was 90 days to do this).
This is not something in the general public's expectations - and likely going to generate a lot more frustration and anger as BP and the government keep trying interim (low risk to higher risk) actions that might help. When your average person on the street simply hears "they tried a, it failed, they tried b, it failed,..." for months, it's not going to be good. I think it would be in the best interest of everybody to set expectations a little more realistically - to better prepare people - but clearly, I'm no expert in Public Relations or legal liability.

Update 1:
* Other highlights from Press Briefing: no new drilling licenses, only updates to existing drilling licenses/operations being allowed. Two licenses which had been issued but not started have been frozen.
