They say keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Whether Progressives want to admit it or not, we are in an ideological war for the soul of our country right now. It is time that we all started fighting like we did during the Bush years and like the "tea-bag" loons are now. Their vision, if enacted by mandate from the next election would destroy the America we all hold dear. One needs only look into the horse's mouth to know what kind of country we are fighting against.
Ah, but before delving into the Republican mindset lets have some theme music:
I guess because their party is so completely and shamelessly devoid of ideas and vision Congressional Republicans have started a new site to let the unwashed tea-bag masses determine policy. One need only take a quick glance at this site to see that we indeed are at a very dangerous crossroads for our country if these folks take control.
Fresh off today's headlines we have this gem of wisdom from someone known as "flagflyer":
Drill for oil in America. The gulf spill is sad, but I would rather import seafood than oil.
http://www.americaspeakingout.com/...
The Gulf Spill is sad?!!? The Gulf Oil Spill is an ecological disaster that threatens thousands of miles of coastal lands in many states!! What about the local economies of the states effected that depend on tourism to their beaches?? Import seafood instead of oil?? What about the hundreds of thousands of fishermen and women in the Gulf states that harvest seafood from the Gulf for their livelihoods that will now see their careers destroyed while we eat lead-filled Talapia from China?? Is this the vision America needs??
"rpassmore" gave us this gem of vision that sounds OK, but leaves something very important out:
Representatives, Senators, and the President are supposed to be servants of the people. As such, why are they earning 5 - 10 times as much as the average US employee? I suggest changing the rules so no Senator, Representative, or President makes more than 3x whatever the current average US income is. If they want to make more, they need to increase the standard of living for the rest of the country.
This sounds good, but if you really want to solve the problem this person left something very important out. This rule should also apply to the CEOs of corporations and the owners of business many of whom have outsourced our jobs for greed, and make hundreds of times more than there workers. Lets cap their wages at three times the amount of their workers. Since most of them are paying a Chinese child in a sweatshop $.50 a day, lets let these fatcats live on $3.50 a week for a while. You would be amazed at how quickly jobs would come back to America and wages would increase the standard of living in our country.
Despite all their bluster about "upholding the Constitution" Conservative "PatriotDeb" seems to think the founding fathers and their Constitution were "dumb":
Repeal the absolutely ridiculous law that allows anyone that is born here automatic citizenship. There are underground organizations that keep many hotel rooms and homes available for women in their 8th month so that their child can have dual citizenship. Many foreigners vacation here just in time for baby to be born for that reason only. This is a dumb law.
Sheesh, I will just let that one speak for itself.
Finally, "pmlowe" gives us this gem of wisdom:
Eliminate corporate tax and the payroll tax burden on companies. Most Americans don’t understand that when the government taxes a company, the company then turns around and passes the tax down to the consumer through higher prices on their products. By eliminating these taxes American goods would become more competitive over night, and bring jobs back to America. The lost revenue could be made up with a small national sales tax on goods.
So the solution is more Corporate Welfare. Corporations that have already outsourced middle-class jobs and passed higher costs onto us ANYWAY. Corporations that pinch pennies and spill millions of gallons of crude into the Gulf costing millions their livelihoods. Corporations that have had every tax break possible and still see fit to lay you off, cut your wages and take your benefits. Yes, we all know these Corporations are just being crippled by our Corporate government.
We all should continue checking this site to see what we are up against. If some of the dangerous, anti-American rantings on this site are made into law, it will spell the doom of our country. America is an Enlightened society, the first country founded on the ideals of the Enlightenment and we Progressives simply must get fired up again and fight against these folks and their dangerous ideology. The alternative is a Dark Ages America.
