Just ten days ago I wrote about Emily's List wrongheaded involvement in our AL-07 primary.
Well as Swing State points out this morning
# AL-07: EMILY's List has now spent $110,000 on the candidacy of former Wall Street securities attorney Terri Sewell, most of that on direct mail. My one-word editorial: Yeesh.
Another $23940.87 for another mailer which I've seen and simply talks about how Sewell wants to Help Obama.
Of course I'm biased in this race, but we need a member of Congress who will fight for the least of these. Shelia Smoot, just a few days out from the election (4 to be exact now), came by here to liveblog last night and she talked about what's she's already done and what she will do even specific ideas about legislation that she would propose.
Shelia would also help President Obama but more importantly she would help the struggling residents of the 7th Congressional District.
This is who we need in Congress
Emily's List has poured in almost as much money as Smoot has raised on a grassroots effort. This just does not seem right when all the candidates in the race male and female seem equally as pro-choice. Something reeks in the State of Demark. I have tremendous respect for what Emily's List did in electing female candidates. They have certainly helped to level the playing field. But they are wrong in getting involved in a primary where they seem to be going on what can only be described as TILT. AL-07 doesn't need a former wall street securities advisor that just wants to Help Obama, It needs someone that will it the ground running in this +18 PVI Dem district now represented by Artur Davis.
Here's an excerpt from my previous blog about one of Emily's List other recent failures
Remember when Emily endorsed the awful Nikki Tinker against much more progressive Steve Cohen in 2008. Didn't turn out well for them as Cohen won by 60% points. This won't either as Sewell just a few weeks ago was running a distant third in this race despite spending nearly half a million and much more than all the other candidates combined.
. She's now over 700k with a big chunk of that coming from one D.C. source.
Emily's List will not buy this election. They are simply trying to save face just 4 days out from this primary. Shelia Smoot is running a true grassroots effort. We are working hard in the field and not just buying fancy advertising or talking about our connections.
We are also just a few dollars away from our goal of $2,000 raised through Grassroots for Smoot on Act Blue
If you could help us get over the top and toward the finish line that would be greatly appreciated. Even this late in the game we can still get a few more radio ads at less than $15 a spot, yard signs for $2 or $3 or and get more literature to give voters when knocking on doors this weekend.
