I just heard this uttered by a pretty blond on MSNBC (Michelle Kazinski), she's still doing her pseudo-valley girl riff with lots of "umms", "likes", and "uhhhs". She's half out of it, yet uttered this profound statement:
"What Can Anyone Do?"
If there was ever any moment for someone to level American culture with her seemingly valium-induced performance, it was this Michelle.
"What Can Anyone Do?"
The question rolled off her tongue as if she were speaking about Uncle Morty's heart attack at the ripe old age of 83.
This question is at the heart of the fundamental gestalt our species has to engage in so that no one ever asks such a stupid question ever again.
The Earth is bleeding a nearly impossible amount of toxins into the ocean. BP is adding to the mess by pouring in "dispersant". This disaster will result in the loss of many lives as it works its way through the food chain and further into our environment.
"What Can Anyone Do?" is the ultimate indictment of our species, particularly our culture. The fact that we put ourselves in this position is psychologically damning, in addition to being really fucking unhealthy.
I really don't have much more to say about it. This 'event' is probably the most horrific thing I've ever seen. It's like watching elements of Avatar unfold in reality.
The learned helplessness of our species.
