This will be short, as most confessions should be. I hope to combine expiating my nagging guilt with a shared sense of glee.
Here, in the beautiful Commonwealth of Virginia, on election day, one just goes to the poll and votes.
I have developed a gnawing hatred for the smarmy, uber-virtuous, Robert Hurt, VA-5th, who is trying to set himself up to challenge Tom Perriello, in November, a distaste and warning which I wrote about here.
Well, I went to the polls and voted, today.
Now, I am not a fan of our local Republican skull duggery so I rarely get very involved in following the races closely. But I have been following this race because I so want Tom Perriello, to maintain his seat.
So, I did something evil and stupid.
Now before this confession is fully stated, let me note that I consider voting to be a sacred act. The one thing each citizen can do to effect governance, and the one thing that every informed citizen is required to do under moral law.
Well, today I jumped the shark.
I looked at the long list of names on the ballot and chose the most middle eastern name I could find. I do not know if I was selecting an idiot, a Tea Party supporter, another mind jarring Libertarian, or just some fool who got the bug to run for office as a Republican.
I put my belief in anyone but Hurt, into action.
Mea Culpa... For a violation of voting honor, common sense, and decency.
Now. Who wants a beer?
