Linda Ketner, who gave Republican 1st Congressional incumbent Henry Brown all he could stand in 2008, has a grassroots movement pushing for her to enter the U.S. Senate race against Jim DeMint in November 2010.
First seen at the Indigo Journal, Ketner would need 10,000 signatures to get her on the ballot statewide. The goal, however, is 20,000.
A group of former Ketner staffers from her ‘08 congressional bid have started a statewide petition to get Linda’s name on the ballot as an independent. The grassroots group already has a website, Facebook page, and is organizing petition drives across the state.
For more information, please visit the website and contact them so that you can get a petition for your county - one petition per county, the website says.
Here's Ketner's take on the possibility of a U.S. Senate run.
Hi folks,
With the announcement of the "Ketner Petition Campaign," (which I
found out about late Tuesday evening) my email has exploded.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's at
http://ketnerforsenate.com/...
With no staff, it will be awhile before I can get back with you.
Thanks for your patience.
Regarding the petition , my friend and former Finance Director Doug
Warner said in a quote from an article in Politico, "What we asked her
is, 'Don't commit, start thinking about it, let us get the signatures
and then we will decide.'" And that's where I am on it.
I'm not commenting to the press, rather waiting to see if there's a
strong response that this is the place that I can be of service for a
better South Carolina. I know that sounds corny but those of you who
know me, know that it's true.
I'm deeply appreciative of the interest, and if 10,000 or more
registered voters sign a petition, it's something I would take very
seriously.
Of this I am sure ... none of us have the luxury of giving up on good
government. There's simply too much at stake.
Very best,
Linda
Shameless right-wingers have already come out attacking her. Afraid I guess.
