I work for a constitutionally sworn General of the United States Army, in an overseas theatre of war. I will call him 'General X.'
Does that sound strange to you? Do you ask "How is it that you can 'work' for a general?"
I will tell you:
I am a civilian, a contractor, some would call me a mercenary.
General X reports (nominally) to the president, but General X has a better grasp of the realities on the ground and a better strategy than does the President or the rest of those idiots in Washington.
Luckily, I am under neither the civilian nor the military chain of command.
I have taken no oaths to support and defend the United States nor its constitution.
After all, I work for General X. I am a contractor, a mercenary. My name doesn't matter. Nor does my nationality. Nor do my loyalties (I have none except my paycheck... and by the way, it's quite substantial, thank you.) As noted, I work for General X. And as long as I continue to receive my paycheck (quite substantial, thank you again) I will continue to work for General X.
General X is all that has saved our country from a bloodbath, in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Arizona.
I have crossed the Tigris and Euphrates following General X.
I would cross the Rubicon to follow General X.
If necessary, I will cross the Columbia, Rio Grande, Mississippi, and Potomac to follow General X.
