As a service to the DKos community, I propose to move the debate over the recent financial reform legislation ahead by writing all the diaries we can expect over the next few days. With luck this will save everyone some time so that they can enjoy a nice summer day rather than scream in inchoate rage at their compatriots at DKos.
UPDATE: Alas, it has already begun. Referring to diary and comments.
Diary #1: Financial Reform, Greatest Financial Legislation Since the Great Depression (Recs 412: Hides 3)
In the wee hours of last night, Obama and the Democrats in congress passed the greatest single act of financial reform in generations. These reforms, passed despite almost unified resistance of the republicans, constitutes a major victory against Wall Street, and once again demonstrate that Obama is a president in the vein of FDR. While some concessions were made to secure the necessary votes of a few Republicans, this was a significant advance and another major piece of legislation brought through Obama's leadership.
I hope that those who have opposed our president will finally STFU about all their whining, and recognize that we must all rally behind him. When combined with all the other progressive legislation that has passed in the mere 1 1/2 years he has been in office, Obama is nothing short of a savior.
Diary #2: Selling out Financial Reform to Wall Street (Recs 354: Hides 10)
The recent passage of Financial Reform legislation in congress represents the greatest sellout to Wall Street since the repeal of the Glass-Steagle act and the recognition of corporate citizenship. Through the lack of leadership of Obama, at best, if not the active pushing of the corporate lackey Rahm Emmanuel, at worst, this legislation will do nothing short of turn ordinary American citizens into the wholly owned subsidiaries of big business.
With carve outs in the legislation for on derivatives, and numerous other loopholes, this legislation is nothing more than a republican wet dream passed by Schumer, Dodd and other Clinton era democrats. With this bill, it is now clear that Obama is nothing more than a Republican, and must be held accountable.
As for any Obamabots left who believe that Obama is their savior, this bill demonstrates that there is no longer any hope for this presidency.
Diary #3: Lies, Damn Lies, and Purists (Recs 48: Hides 18)
In recent diaries, the progressive purists have called the president no better than the republicans. While this legislation is not perfect, it is the best possible in the current circumstances. Further, only an ignorant purist would see this any other way. Unless, of course, these alleged 'progressives' are merely right wing plants sent here to stir shit up.
We must stand together to fight these trolls, and return DKos the position of prominence and greatness this site was founded upon. This is a Democratic blog for electing democrats, if you are not in support of our president, go back to Red State--trolls.
Diary#4: There is a war at Daily Kos (Recs 26: Hides 24)
Do not pretend otherwise. Everyone has chosen sides, and it is time that we in the progressive movement accept that the Blue Dogs have taken over the party, and Dkos. It is time for everyone here to make their position known--whether they support the progressive agenda, or if they are merely the lapdogs of big corporations and the Democratic Party (as if there is a difference). From this point forward, I will no longer kowtow to those who wish to sell out this country to Wall Street. For those who wish to HR me, to show the world that they are merely corporate shills, I say go for it. I couldn't give less of a shit what most people at this site think anymore.
Diary #5: I do not recognize Daily Kos Anymore (Recs 3: Hides 0)
I came to DKos 4 years ago for the progressive politics and common spirit of resistance to the Bush regime. We have had our disagreements (We old timers can still remember the pie fights and primaries! And who could forget Armando!?), but now there seems to be no middle ground. I support the president on some things, I oppose him on others. Yet, there seems no place for reasoned debate. I think I need to to take some time off.
Diary #6: Enough with the meta (Recs 123: Hides 0)
Enough with the meta already, we need substantive dairies, and less of this goddamn hand wringing. Please stop already with all this, it is driving people away from the site. Meteor Blades has already stated that we need more respectful debate--ABOUT ISSUES. So let's all get back to the business of electing Better Democrats.
Peace.
