Listen to MN-03 challenger and Democratic Farmer-Labor party (Minnesota's Democratic party) endorsed candidate Jim Meffert talk about the across-the-board changes we have to make in our country to achieve a real clean energy future in our country:
As Jim says in the video, it's time to start having an honest conversation about our clean energy future and the economic boost that comes along with it. We need a big, bold plan that includes investing in research money for clean energy technology and initiatives like the Homestar program that benefits both small businesses and individuals' energy bills, better public transportation, and legislation to hold polluters like BP accountable when they make mistakes. He recognizes that there isn't just one bill we need to pass or one program we need to implement, but that there are several areas that are extremely important if we want to truly achieve a better clean energy future.
After taking to the floor of the House and demanding that "Congress should be focusing all of its efforts on spurring job creation on small businesses first and foremost," our opponent Erik Paulsen voted against the America COMPETES Act, which included funding for scientific research and education programs. Jim knows that investments in innovation in this field are invaluable, and wants to make the proper commitment to ensure that we are the country that discovers and takes the lead on the next generation of clean energy technology.
Paulsen has also been silent so far on Joe Barton and his apology to BP for all of the hardship they've endured since they spilled thousands of gallons of oil into the Gulf. I guess it must be tough to criticize someone after they gave you $2,000 in PAC money this cycle and $1,000 in PAC money last cycle. Last week, Rachel Maddow covered a fundraiser Paulsen attended at a BP lobbyist's home. He has shown that he cares more about protecting the corporate interests and Republican leaders that are bankrolling him than he does about helping the people of the Gulf Coast and representing the interests of the residents of Minnesota's 3rd District. Here's a message to him from those people:
It's time for Democrats to take a stand against Republicans who refuse to help us move away from our addiction to oil. Please help our campaign out in any way you can.
