One year ago, nobody in the State of Washington (outside of my family and friends) knew who I was. I committed myself to spending every free minute of my time traveling across Central Washington, attending Democratic functions, and surrounding myself with smart, capable people. In January of this year, I was chosen as the Democratic nominee to challenge Rep. Richard "Doc" Hastings in the 2010 election. On Saturday, I addressed the 2010 Washington State Democratic Convention:

Representative Hastings voting record shows exactly who he cares about, and it's not the middle class, it's not the people of Central Washington. He's voted twice against safety standards that might have saved those 29 workers who died in the Upper Big Branch mine. He's voted to let the oil companies drill off our shores without utilizing proper safety measures. Now they're saying that Hastings is a member of Republican Minority Leader John Boehner's "inner circle", so you can be sure that if we send him back to Congress, he'll continue fighting against the people a Congressman is supposed to be fighting for.
We need to raise $50,000 in the next 24 hours. With that money we'll be able to reach out to the voters of Central Washington and show them that they have a real choice this year. They have the choice between an establishment Republican who fights for the right of Corporate America to defile our environment and put our workers lives at risk for the sake of profit, or me, who will fight for the rights of ordinary Americans, the interests of his district, and who will always fight to do the right thing.
$50,000 means a lot of things to this campaign. It will mean more yard signs, it will mean direct mail pieces, it will mean a radio ad or two. But most of all, it will mean that we don't let Rep. Hastings get away without explaining why he only sits on one committee, or why he missed the vote to fund the VA Hospital in Walla Walla where thousands of wounded or ill veterans in his district, including my father, go for care. It will mean that the voters of Central Washington get to make an informed choice.
We CAN win this election. We CAN bring real representation to Central Washington. Not me. Us. I absolutely cannot do this without your support.
If you can give $50, ask yourself if you can give $60. If you can give $100, ask yourself if you can give $150. If you can give $500, ask yourself if you can give $600. This campaign is only going to be won by each and every one of us going the extra mile and fighting to make it happen.
Visit my website to contribute $5, $50, $250, or even $1000. Together, we can win this.
I'll be in the comments section for a while if you have any questions.
I hope I can count on your support.
