I find it sad to admit this, but what I once thought would be the great progressive voice of the future is in actuality, a sinking ship. While there are elements here who make all progressives scratch their heads, you know, those intolerant types who diary swarm, name call, accuse one of whining when one tries to defend him or herself... those who basically act like the Conservatives we do battle with and actually seem to be following their playbook, not the progressive path of tolerance and discourse but the Rethuglican, Red State path of insults, straw dogs, and ad hominem arguments, I never really though DKos would implode... I still had hope.
For all who doubt me, just wait and see who responds to this diary and not only what they say, but how they say. Vet their arguments against this diary to see if it is justified or just hyperbole, and do so better than Kos vetted Research 2000.
DKos NOT a progressive site? To all who wanted to make sure I knew this: follow the link then BITE MY ASS! : - )
FINAL UPDATE: Time Magazine says it best. OVERRATED. But then I'm sure they are just right wing tools and trolls too.
UPDATE 2: This is fresh! 253 comments for a worthless diary that just happens to say some shit about Kos. Again, I ask the question, if it is so bad, why bother to talk shit about it? Why not just move along? Those of you who bitch and moan about me writing something lame or self-serving, or baiting people, have you ever asked yourselves why you bother writing something here? I mean, aren't your comments just as lame? In reality isn't your only reason for responding — and I don't mean those you who wrote something interesting and/or critical, just those of you who bitch, name call, et cetera — is to tell me what an asshole I am? In reality, you're really no better than I am, are you? And since your perception of me, based on my lame ass diary, is really quite negative, this is very telling about how you view yourselves.
Again, those of you who are drawn to the negative have shown yourselves and, of course, you're blaming me for it, as if you were forced to write anything. I mean, do you respond to EVRY bad diary, or just those that say something negative in the title?
UPDATE: Already HIDDEN. I really don't understand how can you people who HR can complain about other people scrubbing when you do it yourselves. And you know you are the first to scream foul when it happens to someone you support or believe in, or when a Conservative blog does it. Simply amazing to me. Classic censorship.
One is only as good as those who represent you. If you lie down with dogs, do not be surprised if you get up with fleas. To say I am let down by the news about Research 2000 is, to say the least, an understatement. And while it is disappointing, the one true disappointment is Kos and those who represent him and this site. He took up the mantle of the progressive voice, put a face to it, and paraded it around mightily; and I was there in sprit right with him. But I had my reservations. Something just didn't feel right when I saw him on the T.V. or heard an interview. While I can;t put my finger on it, it never felt viable; sincere; real. There was always something lacking that I couldn't quite describe, and I always pushed it pout of my mind, believing in the strength of the progressive movement over all.
But perhaps this bit of sour news is a blessing in disguise. Perhaps out of the ashes of Kos' reputation there will arise a leader of epic proportions who can take this movement to where it needs to go. For myself, I neither care nor am willing to devote anymore time to something as broken and Daily Kos.
Why do I think it's broken? Because I believe Kos, and everyone else who thinks they has some power here have been drinking the Kool-Aid for too long; thinking they are the ones who "get it right" while pother have always "gotten it wrong."
While most of you will likely blame Research 2000, and they do deserve blame, I was way under-impressed with the Diary Kos posted. Not once, not ONCE, did he accept responsibility as the man who has the final say; the man whose desk the buck stops at, for this debacle. What did he do? He did what politicians do, what REPUBLICANS DO: he said he "want[ed] to feel stupid for being defrauded, but fact is Research 2000 had a good reputation in political circles." Sounds to me like there is no mia culpa there, even though it was Kos and his inner circle who hired these guys. It's not like someone forced him to use them, twisted his arm and threaten him with violence if he didn't hire Research 2000.
Fact is, while he may have gotten screwed, and screwed royally, he also royally screwed up and should own up to it.
