The newest radio ad from the Shelia Smoot for Congress Campaign (AL-07)
Shelia Smoot is running against Terri Sewell in a race that is being defined as Main Street verse Wall Street. Oh and btw they are both running in the Democratic Primary and the winner will become the first African American Congresswoman from Alabama.
We are just 9 days away from the AL-07 Democratic Primary. This is a D +18 PVI seat that has been held by Artur Davis for the past eight years. Davis who came in with great potential turned out to be a major disappointment as he voted for the awful Bankruptcy Reform bill, against the hate crimes bill and was the only member of the Congressional Black Caucus that voted against the health care reform bill. He was also the member from the most Democratic district to vote against the bill.
In our corner we have Shelia Smoot who has picked up the endorsements of Labor groups and has been a voice for the least of these for years.
In the other corner we have Terri Sewell, a former Wall Street Securities attorney, that would rather eat dinner with the Alabama Federation of Republican women than stay at a Democratic function. Oh and Sewell just started voting in 2008 according to records provided by the Alabama Secretary of State.
This shouldn't be a tough choice, but Sewell is flooding the airwaves with ads because she's raised a million dollars in money. A lot of that coming from Wall Street attorneys and DC insiders.
Shelia Smoot would be a progressive member of Congress. Terri Sewell, she might be another Artur Davis or she could be worse. This is a seat where we don't have to settle for a CorporateDem or a New Dem. We need someone we can count on to be a voice for the working people and will stand up not just when it's politically expedient.
Shelia has almost caught Sewell in number of Act Blue Donors despite having to make up a lot of ground with Sewell's early start.
