Greetings, Kossacks!
My name is Doug Foote, and I'm the New Media Director for Senator Patty Murray's 2010 reelection campaign. I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the Daily Kos community, particularly to those in Washington state.
You folks from the Evergreen State are extremely lucky to have someone like Patty Murray advocating on your behalf in Washington, D.C. She has been relentless in fighting for Washington's working families, from her work investing in transportation and public works projects to her dogged defense of her state's aerospace and technology industries. She's also been one of the most vocal supporters of veterans and veterans' issues in the Senate.
I don't need to tell you that Patty has a particularly tough race ahead of her. After months of indecision, national Republicans finally succeeded in dragging two-time unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi into the race, along with his personal wealth and high name ID. Dino's been raising gobs of money from the likes of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the GOP Establishment has thrown their weight behind him - Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell even lent his Press Secretary to the Rossi campaign.
Tempers are high across the country, and Rossi and Co. will do everything they can to label Patty as an out of touch incumbent. Those of you who have met her know that nothing could be further from the truth. It's cliche, but in many ways Patty Murray is still the "mom in tennis shoes" that came out of nowhere to become Washington's first female U.S. Senator in 1992 - humble, hard-working, and always looking out for her state's working families.
(Well, technically she's now a grandmother in tennis shoes, but you get the point.)
I wanted to make myself available to Washington Kossacks and others who want to keep this state moving forward. For those of you on Twitter, please follow @PeopleforPatty for updates from the campaign, and @PattyMurray for updates from the Senator. If you're a Facebook user, please support Patty on Facebook. And if you have a question, suggestion, or any other piece of wisdom, shoot me an email at dougATpattymurrayDOTcom, and I'll do my best get back to ASAP.
Looking forward to working with all of you!
Thanks again,
Doug Foote
