I hate to break the news to you hardcore dems but the party is over. I voted for Obama in 2008. I stood by him during the last year and a half, but my patience is wearing thin.
His response to the oil spill was pathetic. Maybe he couldn't personally jump into the ocean and plug the spill himself, but the response by the federal government should have at least been quick regarding the cleanup. Wouldn't it have helped if they started the cleanup near the spill when it first started? What if this oil was contained the minute it came to the surface rather than waiting several weeks until it actually hit the shore. These are the things that bother me.
Here's an article that states the right's position pretty well:
Perhaps the reason some Republicans are hesitant to blame Obama for an oil spill that he did not cause is they remember so clearly how many (including then-Senator Obama) harshly blamed President Bush for causing the devastation following Hurricane Katrina, which struck the Gulf Coast in August 2005. While most rational people didn’t blame Bush for actually causing a natural disaster, they were still not too impressed with the way his federal government responded to this crisis in the days and weeks that followed it.
Yes. That is my basic criticism. Finally, today, there is a response to this spill that is equal to the urgency... or close.
I know there are those on this site who feel it is important to prop up the President no matter what the criticism of him is. I know there is a feeling that ANY criticism hurts our side and helps the other side. I don't believe brushing problems under the carpet solves anything.
The best thing we can do is let our government know in no uncertain terms that they need to grow a set of nuts when dealing with problems that face all of us. They need to earn the right to be our representatives. Right now, I'm just angry and this is the best I can think to do about it.
