Almost everything in the nation is designed for BIG and FAT. The cars on the roads in our nation have to be manufactured for large-bodied people. As a result, we burn massive amounts of fuel just to transport our fat @$$e$ from place to place. The Hummer, the SUV, the mini-van. More than half of us are fat slobs.
Plates on dinner tables are disgustingly disproportionate. It's not abnormal for our meals to be super-sized - in fact, now, it is considered odd to eat a normal portion of food.
We grow up on diets of sugar. Our childrens' breakfasts are about 90% carbohydrates. How many children eat fruit with or for breakfast? Tons of sugar. High rates of attention deficit and behavior problems related to sugar consumption, and lots of obesity. Diabetes is a major problem in the United States.
Our oil consumption is a reflection of our obesity and our slobbishness as a nation. We do not fund libraries. We do not like to pay our teachers well.
We demand nursing care when we get sick, but we do NOT want to pay our nurses well.
No - the only people to be paid well are the wealthy, the business executives who kick our butts and steal us blind, and the athletes. More than anything, its the athletes that we want to see well paid.
We wish the athletes to be paid well so that we can sit on our FAT @$$e@ and eat our high calorie foods and get fat, fat, FAT, so we can look at our disgustingly obese husbands or wives and enjoy our sorry excuse for hippo sex.
It's a disgusting assortment in many respects. The children grow up playing video games - learning to kill - no - better yet to maim & torment victims. Music is either blindingly narcissistic or it glories hatred & violence or mindlessness. Glenn Beck has a following of millions, as does Limbaugh, Palin, etc. There are millions of obese fascists in America, or as they like to call themselves, members of a tea party.
We are a nation of candy bars - long aisles of sugary candy in every drug store, every grocery store, every convenience store - rows and rows of sugar that is killing us, or crippling us. Pounds and pounds of sugar is consumed annually by each person - refined sugar. The average diet in this country is full of junk.
from wiki:
Obesity in the United States has been increasingly cited as a major health issue in recent decades. While many industrialized countries have experienced similar increases, obesity rates in the United States are among the highest in the world with 64% of adults being overweight or obese, and 26% are obese.[2]
Estimates of the number of obese American adults have been steadily expanding, from 19.4% in 1997, 24.5% in 2004[3] to 26.6% in 2007.[4] Should current trends continue, 75% of adults in the United States are projected to be overweight and 41% obese by 2015.[5]
The direct medical cost of obesity and indirect economic loss to obesity has been estimated to be as high as $51.64 billion and $99.2 billion in 1995, respectively;[6] this rose to $61 billion and $117 billion in 2000.[7] Researchers for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and RTI International estimate that in 2003, obesity-attributable medical expenditures reached $75 billion.[8]
