It's sad that after months of stories about crazy right-wing, anti-government gunmen that another such lunatic strikes and nobody hears about it.
Well, this weekend another gunman struck:
Williams watched the news on television and was upset by "the way Congress was railroading through all these left-wing agenda items," his mother said.
Suspect Byron Williams loaded up on assault rifles, put on body armor, and then went looking for a fight -- weaving through traffic until he got pulled over, and then fired at CHP officers. There was even a bomb scare (which was thankfully inaccurate).
Two points after the jump...
First, where's the national media on this story? A gunman shuts down a major freeway in the country's fifth largest metro region for nearly 24 hours, and there's barely a mention of it anywhere -- not even DailyKos! (If I've missed something, please add it in the comments below.)
Second, at some point, we need to hold accountable all the wingnuts who squealed to high heaven when the Department of Homeland Security published a report (originally ordered during the Bush administration) that highlighted the high possibility of such violence increasing.
Hey Rachel Maddow -- how about a follow-up on that DHS report? This incident happened near your hometown! ;)
UPDATE: So I've missed at least two DailyKos diaries on this episode:
Dem Beans
Vyan
But the point of my story is visibility in the national media, especially tying this back to the original DHS report. I did a Google News search and the AP (*shudder*) is the only national outlet to cover the story. We need to be in the business of driving narratives, and merely noting another sad incident doesn't do enough.
