Rachel's, um, refudiation of the case against Shirley Sherrod illustrates one of the biggest reasons why I am a big fan. Join me below the fold for more.
My question is the same as Rachel's: Why does the administration care what Fox News andAndrew Breitbart thinks? As the brilliant Amanda Marcotte writes "Bullshit doesn't stop being bullshit because it's loud bullshit." Mr. Vilsack, do the right thing, as the NAACP has done, admit your error/Fox's manipulation and put that woman back to work protecting farms! As a side note, the real story of Sherrod and those farmers is quite heartwarming.
Can you imagine Bush people firing anyone over a Maddow appearance? That is how jacked this is.
Ben Jealous admitted Fox News "Snookered" the venerable civil-rights organization with doctored videotape and the pressure to make a quick statement. Jealous said the real message of the full story is one of togetherness...Rachel suggests the intent was to undermine the comments about the Tea Party.
Rachel says the goal is to "stoke white resentment" and progressives will have to respond to it.
Unemployment extension finally passed today, thanks to Byrd's replacement, but without many of the most long-range economic-growth projects. This is both good and very frustrating, especially as I can picture Kyl on his big butt saying that other people are lazy.(we need to dump the KillBill, and/or Ben Nelson) We should have gone bigger; at least had a few chicken nuggets...mmm, chicken nuggets.
Elena Kagan should be confirmed next month, and the extreme right is tripping.Nutso conspiracy theorist Frank Gaffney is kind of alone on yet another wacky crusade. Slate'sDahlia Lithwick says that more pressing issues have taken the fight out of this confirmation, although she does not leave much of a trail.
UK, you should have accepted the Iroquois lacrosse passports. In addition to the US/ Iroquois showdown, Rachel mentioned, I think the UK should come too.
