What do Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, Minnesota GOP leader Tony Sutton, tacos and minimum wages have in common? It's not just indigestion ...
Target Corp. isn't the only business that would benefit from (and thus supports) Emmer's candidacy (see recent diaries by lucia55116 and Bare Left). Tony Sutton, GOP wunderkind and current MN Republican Party Chairman, is ... wait for it ... owner and CEO of the Baja Sol Restaurant Group!
Sutton was recently taken to task by SEIU Local 26 for engaging in the not-so-amusing hypocrisy of dishing out Mexican food at his restaurants while serving up the politics of Mexican-American exclusion and criminalization. Sutton's Arizona-style immigrant bashing is shared by his bff Emmer, who called Arizona's law "a wonderful first step." First step? I can hardly wait to see what the "final solution" looks like.
Anyhow, back the food biz: maybe it's just a coincidence that Emmer and Sutton share a common interest in all things ultra-conservative, and that they both seem to like the idea of cheap restaurant labor. I'm not sure whether attorney Emmer is as wealthy as Sutton (so far, he's refused to release his tax returns), but it's easy to see which side of the menu he's on, and where his tips are coming from.
